Black Composers Recital Information for Performers

Acadiana Center for the Arts

On January 10, LAMTA will again sponsor a recital of music by Black composers in the ACA downtown theater. The recital is open to the public, and as a LAMTA teacher, you and your colleagues are invited to perform. Performances may include solo, duet, or chamber music.

Please note that this is not a student performance event.

If you’re unsure where to find repertoire, I’ve compiled a list of resources. While it emphasizes late-intermediate to early-advanced solo piano works (with a few concert pieces included), it should be seen as a starting point—you are not limited to the works listed. The resource list does not include duet or chamber music, though those are certainly welcome.

Please keep your selections to 6–8 minutes maximum. For longer works, check with me in advance, since the recital is limited to one hour. All participation requests are subject to approval.

👉 To participate:

  • Submit a notice of intent (composer, title, length, personnel, email contact info for all performers) by December 1.
  • Submit final confirmation by December 20.
  • Reminder: Performers will be expected to say a few words to the audience about the composer and the piece performed. Send participation requests and any questions to Susie Garcia at susanna.garcia@louisiana.edu

Please see the resource list and consider joining the recital as a performer!
